Former 49er to host football camps
Popson spent summers in Rocklin while with 49ers
Former San Francisco 49ers tight end Ted Popson has scheduled skills and technique football camps for youth ages 11-to-15 this July in Auburn. The Ted Popson Football Camps are non-contact and they will focus on teaching technique and skills for offensive linemen (July 13-17); receivers (July 20-24) and defensive linemen (July 27-31). According to Popson, the camps, which will be held at Regional Park in Auburn, will maximum out to a player-coach ratio of 20-1. “I’ve volunteered at a lot of camps and most times camps are focused on enrolling as many kids as possible,” Popson said. Popson hopes that by keeping the groups small, kids won’t get lost in the shuffle. “We want to focus on players who are playing multiple positions and won’t get enough individual attention at other camps,” said Popson, an Auburn resident. To sign up for the sessions contact Auburn Recreation District at (530) 885-8461. Popson can be reached at (530) 305-7506 for more information. Popson helped the 49ers win a Super Bowl in 1994. He played for San Francisco from 1994-96 and the 49ers trained in Rocklin during those summers.
