This spring, aspiring singers have the opportunity to show off their talents at NorCal Sings!, a multi-regional singing competition coming to Northern California.

Contestants will be able to audition in six cities throughout the region including in Roseville on March 13 and in Sacramento on April 10.

Sponsors include Westfield malls and Borders Books.

Fans of “American Idol” and other such competitions will be familiar with the format. Selected singers will advance through multiple rounds. However, unlike many other competitions, NorCal Sings! has less age restrictions. There will be categories for singers as young as 7 and adults of all ages.

In addition to a cash prize of $1,000 each, 10 winners will receive photo shoots, sound recordings, music videos and vocal coaching sessions with professionals. Winners also will be featured in special appearances. All contestants will receive a bag of giveaways at their initial audition.

Registration is $45 and is limited to 100 contestants per genre per location. Once a location is full, contestants will have to audition in an alternate city. Contestants may audition in more than one city if space is available.

Contestants will be broken down by age group and will compete in three separate genres of rock/pop/country/musical theatre; classical; and rap/spoken word.
