Motorcyclist dead after evading police

A Roseville man was killed instantly Wednesday night after evading police and losing control of his motorcycle.

At about 9:55 p.m., a California Highway Patrol officer attempted to pull over the motorcyclist on Galleria Boulevard for speeding, according to David Martinez of the CHP.

The driver of the motorcycle, Erick Von Schelske, 42, then took off at a high rate of speed turned on to Stanford Ranch Road in Rocklin, Martinez said.

“He ran off the side of the road and collided with a tree,” Martinez said. “He was killed instantly.”

Martinez said Stanford Ranch Road was closed south of Cobblestone Drive for approximately 5 hours while the CHP investigated the collision.

Martinez said a toxicology report will be conducted by the coroner’s office to determine if alcohol was a factor in the incident.
