Department of Water Resources Assistant Deputy Director John Andrew will present a lecture on how climate changes impact California’s water on Friday at Sierra College.

“Adapt, Flee, or Perish: Responses to Climate Change for California’s Water Sector” will be focus of presentation by Department of Water Resources Assistant Deputy Director John Andrew at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21 in Sewell Hall Room 111 on the Rocklin campus of Sierra College, 5000 Rocklin Road.

Andrew will describe the challenges posed by climate change for California’s water supply, including a reduction in snowpack and annual runoff and shifts in seasonal timing.

He will also address DWR’s plans to address these challenges, such as investing in water use efficiencies and adapting water management infrastructure to accommodate the uncertainty that climate change poses.

Andrew has more than 20 years of experience in water resources and environmental engineering and is a state licensed civil engineer.

He holds degrees in civil engineering and public policy from the University of California at Berkeley. In his role as Assistant Deputy Director for the Department of Water Resources, he oversees all of DWR’s climate change activities.

This presentation is part of the Sierra College Natural History Museum’s 2011-2011 lecture series.

Tickets, at $5 general and $2 for students and seniors, will be available at the door.

Admission is free for museum members. There is a $2 parking fee on campus.

Proceeds will benefit the Sierra College Natural History Museum.
